The role:
The World Aquatics Training Centre in Bahrain is seeking a qualified Physiotherapist for its expanding swimming and diving scholarship programme.
Working with the Head Coach and Scholarship Programme Manager, the role provides assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and injury prevention to support athlete health, performance, and safe return-to-training in a high-performance environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care & Athlete Management
- Provide clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries in swimming and diving athletes.
- Lead rehabilitation programmes and return-to-performance planning with performance and coaching staff.
- Deliver sport-specific injury prevention strategies.
- Manage daily clinical care to support athlete health and availability.
- Maintain accurate, confidential medical records in line with governance standards.
- Monitor injury status, rehabilitation progress, and readiness to train or compete.
- Provide pitch-side and poolside physiotherapy during camps and competitions.
- Ensure safe clinical decision-making for training modifications and return-to-play clearance.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary planning with coaches, strength & conditioning staff, and performance scientists.
- Educate athletes and staff on injury prevention and recovery.
Performance Integration & High-Performance Support
- Work closely with the Head Coach to support athlete availability and performance outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Strength & Conditioning Coach and performance team for integrated care.
- Contribute to the Annual Performance Plan through injury prevention and rehab strategies.
- Support monitoring of athlete load, injury risk, and readiness.
- Provide updates on athlete medical status and rehabilitation progress.
- Promote a high-performance, athlete-centred environment.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence in a diverse environment.
- Promote a safe and ethical performance culture.
Administrative & Medical Governance
- Maintain accurate medical and injury records.
- Contribute to injury surveillance and reporting systems.
- Support preparation of medical and performance reports.
- Ensure compliance with clinical governance, confidentiality, and safeguarding standards.
- Assist in coordination of medical services across training, camps, and competitions.
Travel & Competition Support
- Provide physiotherapy coverage during training camps and international competitions.
- Ensure continuity of athlete care during travel.
- Support medical logistics and emergency planning.
Miscellaneous Programme Support
- Support operational and medical tasks for smooth programme delivery.
- Assist the Head Coach and performance team in maintaining athlete health and availability.
Profile required
Experience & Skills:
- Degree in Physiotherapy from a recognised institution.
- Valid professional registration/license to practice as a Physiotherapist.
- Proven experience working with elite or high-performance swimming and/or diving athletes.
- Experience in musculoskeletal assessment, rehabilitation, and return-tosport protocols.
- Strong understanding of sports injury prevention and load-related injury mechanisms.
- Experience within structured high-performance or national/international sports programmes.
- Knowledge of anti-doping regulations and commitment to clean sport practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of organisation, documentation, and attention to clinical detail.
- Ability to manage multiple athletes and priorities in a high-performance environment.
- Willingness to travel internationally for competitions and training camps.
- Fluency in English required; additional languages are an advantage.
Start Date: Q3 2026
Location: Bahrain.
