Job description
The World Aquatics Training Centre in Bahrain is expanding its swimming and diving scholarship programme and is seeking a passionate and qualified Assistant Swimming Coach. Reporting to the Head Coach for Swimming and working closely with the Scholarship Programme Manager, the successful candidate will support the daily training and development of scholarship swimmers, uphold World Aquatics' high-performance standards, and contribute to the overall success of the programme.
Main Responsibilities:
Programme Management & Coaching
- Assist the Head Coach in managing daily training sessions for scholarship swimmers.
- Collaborate with the Head Coach to implement the Annual Performance Plan and contribute to performance evaluations.
- Support the coaching team in executing training plans and periodisation aligned with the World Aquatics competition schedule.
- Track and report on the performance of scholarship swimmers, providing feedback to the Scholarship Programme Manager.
- Actively participate in educating athletes and coaches on anti-doping practices.
- Participate in the preparation and delivery of coaching sessions, ensuring clear explanations and demonstrations to optimise swimmer development.
- Assist in the coordination of events, and competitions.
World-Class Coaching Performance
- Support the Head Coach in ensuring athletes meet the strategic goals and high-performance standards of the Bahrain Development Programme.
- Provide regular updates and feedback to the Head Coach on swimmer progress and well-being.
- Be open to feedback and actively work towards personal and professional growth.
- Demonstrate emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity by fostering inclusivity and collaboration among individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Lead by example instilling accountability, integrity, and a growth mindset within the team.
- Cultivate a safe, empowering environment that enables athletes to thrive, build confidence, and achieve peak performance.
Administrative Support
- Assist in maintaining accurate athlete records, training logs, and performance reports.
- Assist in managing schedules for training sessions, competitions, and other events related to the scholarship programme.
- Help with the preparation of reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Travel & Logistics Support
- Collaborate with the Scholarship Programme Coordinator to organise travel arrangements for scholarship swimmers, including transportation and accommodation for competitions or Events.
- Assist in handling any logistical challenges related to travel, ensuring that athletes are properly supported during their trips.
Profile required
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience as a swimming coach, preferably with experience working with elite or high-performance swimmers.
- Strong knowledge of swimming techniques, athlete development, and training methodologies.
- Experience working in structured athlete development programmes.
- Familiarity with anti-doping policies and a commitment to clean sport practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and support athletes and coaching staff.
- Ability to manage various tasks effectively and efficiently.
- Flexibility to travel internationally to support competitions and training activities.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
