Job description
Vates is a French software company specializing in virtualization, offering a credible alternative to proprietary solutions on the market. Our Vates VMS solution enables companies to manage their IT infrastructures in a simple, efficient, and controlled way.
The Alliance Solutions Engineer (ASE) is the senior technical solution-engineering counterpart to the Alliances function. The role exists to turn partner relationships into technically credible, supportable, and repeatable integrated solutions for Vates.
The ASE works at the intersection of Alliances, Product, Professional Services, Sales SE, and Vates and partner’s engineering teams. The ASE shapes feasibility, integration architecture, operational validation, and scoped technical delivery.
Your Responsibilities:
- Act as the named technical contact for assigned VATES Alliance Network members and other active vendor relationships on the Vates side.
- Lead technical discovery and feasibility assessment for new or evolving integrations, including contribution to level placement in the integration complexity (L0-L3).
- Define integration architecture for L1 and above integrations: protocol choice, authentication model, data flow, error handling, and boundary assumptions.
- Translate between partner engineering constraints and Vates internal technical teams so that issues are routed with the right context and the right urgency.
- Build and ship in-scope integration artifacts, including manifests, scripts, automation, plugins, connectors, and scoped reference implementations.
- Own operational validation for in-scope integrations on the Vates side: confirm that integrations are technically real, reproducible, supportable, and documented enough to be reused beyond the original builder.
- Maintain ASE-shipped artifacts across partner and Vates product changes, including version refreshes, bug fixes, and partner-side breaking-change response.
- Surface technical and operational risks early, including supportability risk, partner-access risk, hidden maintenance tail, weak validation evidence, and architecture fragility.
- Own first-line technical triage for inbound alliance-related technical requests and decide whether work is resolved by the ASE, routed to Vates engineering, or routed to partner engineering.
- Contribute technical review and co-authorship to partner-facing assets such as Solutions, Solution Briefs, Solution Guides, Knowledge base articles and integration records.
- Work in close operating cadence with Professional Services so that standard alliance integrations reflect field deployment reality.
- Provide technical input to business cases for alliance investments, including feasibility, effort, sustaining cost, and architectural risk.
- Participate selectively in customer-facing opportunities when the joint Vates + partner technical solution is central to the deal, while routine pre-sales remains owned by Sales SE.
- Uphold role boundaries: the ASE is not the owner of a separate compatibility-list, SCL, or certification registry, and does not own formal certification-program governance.

Profile required
The ideal candidate profile is oriented towards senior technical integration work at the intersection of product, partner ecosystem, and solution delivery.
- several years of experience in solutions engineering, integrations, technical partnerships, field engineering, or product-adjacent engineering

- strong partner- or customer-facing communication ability
- enough seniority to challenge weak assumptions, refuse out-of-scope work when necessary, and escalate cleanly

Company description
Vates is a French software company specializing in Open Source and virtualization, with a strong commitment to open and collaborative development. Our main projects, Xen Orchestra and XCP-ng, cover the entire virtualization stack — from the hypervisor (Xen) and the virtualization platform (XCP-ng) to virtual machine management and backup (Xen Orchestra).
Our team is distributed across several countries and fully embraces remote work, with transparent working methods and accessible communication channels. At Vates, we are driven by a people-centered company culture focused on kindness, inclusivity, and a flat organizational structure. Every team member is encouraged to contribute ideas, make decisions, and grow with the company.
Our Open Source model is at the core of everything we do — not only in our code, available on GitHub and GitLab, but also in our collaborative approach with the community. We believe in an “upstream first” philosophy, and we dedicate our expertise and resources to fundamental projects such as Xen, while supporting contributors of all levels in joining us on this journey.
