UNIVITY

Senior Antenna Engineer

Job description

UNIVITY is looking for a Senior Antenna Engineer to join the team in our Toulouse office and reports to the Senior Payload Manager

As a Senior Antenna Engineer, you will play a key role in developing our first-generation ground terminal. You will design, develop, test, and integrate advanced antenna systems, including phased arrays and reflector-based solutions to enable breakthrough satellite communication capabilities. You will be involved across the entire development cycle, from early simulations and prototyping to system integration, validation, and real-world performance optimization.

Your key responsibilities and tasks:
• Architect and design next-generation phased array antennas and reflector-based end-to-end—from radiating elements to full arrays, for millimeter-wave applications
• Define the system-level RF architecture and drive critical trade-offs between analog, digital, and hybrid beamforming to meet stringent SWaP and thermal constraints.
• Perform advanced electromagnetic (EM) simulations (CST, HFSS) to optimize radiation patterns, scan performance, impedance matching, and overall array efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with RF, Electronics, DSP, mechanical, and thermal teams to ensure a fully integrated and high-performance antenna system.
• Contribute to the development and testing of digital beamforming algorithms and software to enable full phased-array functionality.
• Oversee the full hardware lifecycle, including fabrication, characterization, environmental qualification (thermal), and final validation.
• Lead or support antenna integration activities within the full system architecture.
• Analyze in-field RF performance data, identify root causes of anomalies, and propose improvements to boost operational performance.
• Mentor engineers within the team and promote technical excellence through rigorous design reviews and data-driven decision-making.

Profile required

Skills and experience
• Minimum Master of Science or PhD in Antenna engineering.
• 8+ years of experience in RF and antenna research or development (internships and thesis work included).
• Deep expertise in electromagnetic theory and its application to antenna design, particularly for phased arrays.
• Proven experience leading to the design of an antenna or phased array system.
• Hands-on experience with 3D EM simulation tools such as CST and HFSS.
• Understanding of the trade-offs between different beamforming architectures (analog, digital, hybrid).
• Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C#, or C++ is highly appreciated.
• Familiarity with antenna measurement techniques (anechoic/reverb chambers, near-field probes).
• Knowledge of antenna prototyping tools and fabrication methods.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, autonomous, and demanding start-up environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English.

People come in different shapes and sizes and it is difficult to write a job description for someone we have not yet met. Therefore if you are not sure that you meet all the criteria, or if you think that you may have something different to offer, we still want to hear from you.
