Mantle 8

Géologue

Job description

The Role

Within the Geology team, you will interpret surface and subsurface data to build 3D geological models and to generate, mature and evaluate natural hydrogen prospects, primarily in onshore settings (mountain belts and foreland basins / fold & thrust belts). Your interpretations will directly shape Mantle8's exploration decisions.

You will be involved across the entire exploration chain, from screening to prospect generation (alongside geophysicists and geochemists) through to maturation, working at both the regional and the play scale. As seismic data is sometimes scarce or only historical, the ability to deliver results with limited data is essential.

Your Mission :
Interpret and integrate seismic, geological and subsurface data to generate H₂ prospects in fold & thrust belt settings — firmly grounded in real data, not generic models.

Fold & Thrust Belt — structural mapping, onshore settings
2D/3D Seismic — structural & stratigraphic interpretation, from regional to play scale
H₂ Prospects — target generation & maturation through to drilling
Multidisciplinary teams — Geology · Geophysics · Geochemistry · Drilling

Key Responsibilities :
Subsurface interpretation & characterization
– Interpret and integrate seismic, geological and subsurface data to characterize structural and reservoir geology (fold & thrust belt, onshore), at both regional and play scale
– Perform 2D/3D seismic interpretation — structural and stratigraphic — and map H₂ prospects
– Collect, compile and analyze legacy O&G and/or mining data (surface and subsurface), including in data-scarce settings

Prospect generation & maturation
– Contribute to the screening, generation and maturation of natural hydrogen prospects, through to the definition of drilling targets
– Generate leads through advanced interpretation techniques and new datasets
– Build integrated subsurface models within multidisciplinary teams, working closely with geophysicists and geochemists

Communication & decision support
– Communicate technical results and recommendations to support project evaluations
– Take part in prospect reviews and exploration decision-making

What We Offer :
- The exploration of a new energy — natural H₂, a genuine scientific frontier
- Real data across a variety of onshore basins (fold & thrust)
- A central technical role within the Geology vertical
- Grenoble — a scientific environment and an alpine setting
- A passionate, international and multidisciplinary team with a startup culture
- Direct impact on exploration decisions

Profile required

Essential
– Master's degree in applied geosciences (e.g. reservoir engineer / geologist)
– 5 years + of experience in the O&G industry / geosciences
– Proficiency in 2D/3D structural & stratigraphic seismic interpretation, from regional to play scale
– Experience in fold & thrust belt settings (onshore)
– Ability to work with limited data and to source / compile data (legacy, fieldwork)
– Autonomy and analytical rigor, while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Nice to have
– An all-rounder profile: structural geology + seismic interpretation + 3D modeling
– Software: Move, Petrel
– O&G experience in an early-stage exploration context

Company description

🇬🇧 Mantle8 is a deep-tech exploration company dedicated to unlocking the potential of natural hydrogen as a new clean energy resource.

By combining advanced geoscience, subsurface modeling and cutting-edge simulation technologies, Mantle8 develops innovative exploration methods to identify and evaluate natural hydrogen systems deep within the Earth.
Our multidisciplinary team brings together geoscientists, engineers, data scientists and explorers who share a common ambition: advancing scientific understanding while building the foundations of a new energy frontier.
From regional exploration concepts to prospect generation and technological development, Mantle8 works at the intersection of research, innovation and industrial application to accelerate the emergence of natural hydrogen as part of the global energy transition.
At Mantle8, exploration is not only about discovering new resources — it is about expanding knowledge, challenging assumptions and building solutions for the future of energy.

Why is everything in English if Mantle8 is based in the heart of the French Alps?
Because Mantle8 is an international adventure.
As of March 2026, our team includes 21 people representing 9 different nationalities. This diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and English is the language that allows everyone to collaborate, debate ideas and build things together.
We love our home in the French Alps, but inside Mantle8 our common ground is English — from meetings and technical discussions to emails and, yes, even our jokes.
So if you’re thinking about joining us, English is not just helpful — it’s essential to be part of the conversation.
