Job description
Why are we looking for you ?
To design and operate first-of-their-kind hardware, we build our own tools. Our central software product is an in-house Rust simulation framework, because off-the-shelf software can't keep up with products that have never been built before.
This framework forms the digital backbone of the entire mission from design and flight algorithm development through hardware-in-the-loop testing, operations sims, and on-orbit operations. We're migrating it from an early stage partially complete prototype to a high-performance Rust codebase and continuing to grow it into the full digital backbone of our technical products, and we're growing the software team in the next 2 years. You'd be the 2nd Software developer on the team, with a real influence over the foundations and the software evolution.
What you'll own
- Take end-to-end ownership of a major share of the architecture, from blank sheet to tested, production-grade code.
- Design, implement, and test the key building blocks of our Rust mission-planning software.
- Build high-performance simulation capabilities and the architecture for high-fidelity physical models (orbital dynamics, environment models, propagation).
- Deliver robust, reliable, maintainable code in a fast-paced, high-precision environment where correctness matters down to the last significant digit.
- Contribute across the stack, including our egui & bevy based frontend for 2D/3D trajectory visualization and pragmatic UIs that support GNC algorithm work.
- Mentor junior engineers and act as the technical reference for software-design practices across the team.
Profile required
Must-haves
- 5+ years of systems programming in a performance-critical language such as C or C++ (or equivalent), building compute-intensive software.
- 1+ year of hands-on Rust experience Our codebase is advanced Rust, so we need someone already comfortable with the language's ownership model and type system. A willingness to learn won't be enough.
- At least one full development cycle delivered end-to-end, from a blank sheet to modular, maintainable, high-fidelity software, and ideally more than once.
- Proficiency with Git or any versioning system.
- Professional-level English. French is a plus, not a requirement.
- Strong analytical skills, autonomy, and the drive to take full responsibility for a significant part of the finished product.
Nice-to-haves
- Prior experience in video-game development (real-time rendering, engines) or a space-related environment.
- Experience ingesting and processing high volumes of telemetry / structured data.
- Additional languages experiences such as Python or Bash.
Company description
Gama is a NewSpace startup based in Ivry-sur-Seine, near Paris. We are developing a next-generation power system for commercial LEO satellites — from solar array power conversion to battery energy storage. We design, build, and test our hardware in-house, and we move fast: our engineers see their designs go from schematic to flight hardware.
We are a small team where ownership matters: you own your subsystem end-to-end, from first calculations to test results. We work hands-on, we help each other without ego, and we treat mistakes as data — finding out why something failed is how we get better.
We offer:
- Your work will fly. Contribute directly to the future of space exploration and Sustainable Space.
- Access to cutting-edge facilities and development opportunities in the heart of the European space industry.
- A steep personal development path, working alongside world class aerospace engineers.
- Equity package and competitive compensation.
- A highly talented, dynamic and international team.
You do not need to meet every requirement to apply. If this role excites you and you meet many, but not all, of the criteria, we would be glad to hear from you. We value potential and support growth into the role.
