Job description
To pursue our ambitious vision, we are looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer. In this role, you will design the power conversion electronics at the heart of a satellite power system — owning your subsystem end-to-end, from first calculations to flight hardware.
Your mission will be to:
- Design and develop multi-kW-class DC/DC power converters for satellite power systems: semiconductor selection, gate drive circuits, power magnetics, and thermal management.
- Design isolated and non-isolated auxiliary and bias power supplies (buck, flyback, push-pull, LLC topologies), including magnetics selection, isolation requirements where applicable, and common-mode behavior in high-dv/dt environments.
- Design motor driver electronics for the actuation of deployable structures.
- Perform circuit simulation and analysis: switching losses, thermal modeling, worst-case analysis, and stability of control loops.
- Build, bring up, and validate prototypes in the lab: functional testing, efficiency and thermal characterization, EMC.
Profile required
- Professional engineering education (MSc or equivalent) in electrical engineering / power electronics, with 5+ years of hands-on converter design experience.
- Solid theoretical foundation in power converter topologies, magnetics design, and control theory.
- Practical experience with wide-bandgap devices (SiC/GaN): gate driving, switching characterization, layout for high dv/dt environments.
- Strong analog design skills: sensing chains, amplifiers, comparators, protections.
- PCB design proficiency (KiCad) with focus on power layout and EMI mitigation.
- Autonomy in the lab: oscilloscopes, differential/isolated probes, power analyzers, electronic loads.
- Strong analytical skills, a proactive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and unbounded curiosity.
- You enjoy owning your scope end-to-end.
- Professional level English — further languages welcome.
Nice to have:
- Experience in space, automotive, aerospace, or other high-reliability industries.
- Familiarity with photovoltaic systems: solar cell/array characteristics, IV curve behavior, MPPT techniques.
- Familiarity with motor drives: stepper/BLDC control, driver stages, current regulation.
- Embedded C programming for real-time control on DSP/MCU.
Company description
Gama is a NewSpace startup based in Ivry-sur-Seine, near Paris. We are developing a next-generation power system for commercial LEO satellites — from solar array power conversion to battery energy storage. We design, build, and test our hardware in-house, and we move fast: our engineers see their designs go from schematic to flight hardware.
We are a small team where ownership matters: you own your subsystem end-to-end, from first calculations to test results. We work hands-on, we help each other without ego, and we treat mistakes as data — finding out why something failed is how we get better.
We offer:
- Your work will fly. Contribute directly to the future of space exploration and Sustainable Space.
- Access to cutting-edge facilities and development opportunities in the heart of the European space industry.
- A steep personal development path, working alongside world class aerospace engineers.
- Equity package and competitive compensation.
- A highly talented, dynamic and international team.
You do not need to meet every requirement to apply. If this role excites you and you meet many, but not all, of the criteria, we would be glad to hear from you. We value potential and support growth into the role.
