Job description
To pursue our ambitious vision, we are looking for a Layout Engineer. In this role, you will turn power electronics designs into flight-ready PCBs — owning the layout from component placement to fabrication outputs.
Your mission will be to:
- Design power PCBs: high-current layout, heavy copper, busbars, creepage/clearance, and EMC-driven layout practices.
- Lay out mixed-signal boards: gate drive circuits, analog sensing chains, and MCU/digital sections with clean grounding and partitioning.
- Own the layout flow: library and footprint management, stackup definition, design rules, and fabrication outputs (Gerbers, drawings, assembly data).
- Work with PCB manufacturers and assemblers: DFM/DFA reviews, and support during fabrication and assembly.
- Support prototype bring-up and EMC testing, feeding lessons learned back into layout practices.
Profile required
- Professional engineering education (MSc or equivalent) in electrical engineering or equivalent experience, with 5+ years of hands-on PCB layout experience across power and mixed-signal boards.
- Proficiency in KiCad, or solid experience with Altium/other tools and a willingness to learn.
- Understanding of power electronics layout constraints: switching loops, parasitics, thermal management, creepage/clearance.
- Knowledge of EMC-driven layout: grounding strategies, return paths, filter placement, shielding.
- Knowledge with PCB fabrication and assembly processes: stackups, heavy copper, via technologies.
- Strong analytical skills, a proactive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and unbounded curiosity.
- You enjoy owning your scope end-to-end.
- Professional level English — further languages welcome.
Nice to have:
- Experience in space, aerospace, energy sector, downhole equipment, oceanographic, or other high-reliability industries.
- Experience with high-voltage or high-current board design.
- Familiarity with thermal simulation or signal/power integrity analysis.
- Schematic capture experience and good circuit-level understanding.
Company description
Gama is a NewSpace startup based in Ivry-sur-Seine, near Paris. We are developing a next-generation power system for commercial LEO satellites — from solar array power conversion to battery energy storage. We design, build, and test our hardware in-house, and we move fast: our engineers see their designs go from schematic to flight hardware.
We are a small team where ownership matters: you own your subsystem end-to-end, from first calculations to test results. We work hands-on, we help each other without ego, and we treat mistakes as data — finding out why something failed is how we get better.
We offer:
- Your work will fly. Contribute directly to the future of space exploration and Sustainable Space.
- Access to cutting-edge facilities and development opportunities in the heart of the European space industry.
- A steep personal development path, working alongside world class aerospace engineers.
- Equity package and competitive compensation.
- A highly talented, dynamic and international team.
You do not need to meet every requirement to apply. If this role excites you and you meet many, but not all, of the criteria, we would be glad to hear from you. We value potential and support growth into the role.
