Job description
ATMOS Space Cargo GmbH is seeking an GNC Engineer (m/f/d) to design, develop, integrate and validate Guidance, Navigation and Control functions for our reusable PHOENIX spacecraft. Working closely with Systems Engineering, Avionics and Flight Software, you will take ownership from algorithm design through testing and flight-data analysis.
Key responsibilities
- You will develop and validate guidance, navigation and control algorithms for orbital flight, re-entry, descent and recovery.
- You will translate mission objectives into GNC architecture, interfaces, requirements and performance criteria.
- You will build and maintain six-degree-of-freedom simulations and Monte Carlo campaigns to assess performance and robustness.
- You will integrate GNC functions with flight software and support software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop and system-level testing.
- You will design operational procedures for the different phases of the mission, including LEOP and commissioning.
- You will analyse test and flight data, resolve anomalies and drive technical decisions with Systems, Avionics, Propulsion and Aerodynamics teams.
Profile required
- Master's degree in aerospace engineering, control engineering, robotics, applied mathematics or a comparable technical field.
- At least four years of professional experience in GNC, flight dynamics or autonomous-control development for spacecraft and launch vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of flight mechanics, control theory, state estimation, numerical methods and uncertainty analysis.
- Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and C++ or C including simulation, software integration and verification and validation.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with astrodynamics, space operations, mission modes and reentry vehicles,
- Experience with embedded flight software, spacecraft sensors and actuators.
- Knowledge of the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) processes would be helpful.
Company description
ATMOS was founded as a European company built on the values of freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and human rights. We are committed to protect these values by making our technology available to others who share the same values, strengthening infrastructure and innovation for prosperity on Earth.
Our team is multinational and diverse, with offices in Lichtenau and Strasbourg. We work in a collegial, hands-on culture where people support each other, take ownership, and keep learning every day. Motivation for the mission comes first — building spacecraft is not a nine-to-five pursuit. We align the mission, the team, and the individual in mutual dependence. This principle shapes our work environment where exceptional people, as committed as they are competent, can grow and contribute to a mission that matters.
