Job description
ATMOS Space Cargo is seeking an FPGA Design Engineer (m/f/d) to develop the programmable logic at the heart of the avionics in our PHOENIX return systems. In this role, you will own FPGA designs on AMD devices, from RTL through timing closure and verification. Working closely with avionics, systems engineering, and mission operations, you will follow your designs through qualification, test campaigns, and flight operations.
Key responsibilities
- You will develop, implement, and verify FPGA designs on AMD devices, with a focus on Zynq UltraScale+ and RFSoC, for the avionics of our PHOENIX reentry systems.
- You will write RTL code in VHDL or Verilog for real-time data processing, sensor interfaces, and communication interfaces in the flight system.
- You will perform synthesis, place and route, and timing closure, and run functional and formal verification using AMD Vivado and Vitis.
- You will work with avionics, systems engineering, and mission operations to define interfaces and requirements.
- You will support qualification and test campaigns, including hardware-in-the-loop and environmental testing, and investigate faults during flight operations.
- You will contribute to the selection of FPGA devices and development tools for future missions.
Profile required
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a comparable qualification.
- 3+ years of professional experience in FPGA design, ideally with AMD or Xilinx devices such as Zynq UltraScale+, RFSoC, or Kintex and Virtex UltraScale+.
- Very good knowledge of VHDL or Verilog, together with hands-on experience in AMD Vivado and Vitis.
- Experience with verification methods such as simulation and test benches, and with timing analysis.
- A structured, self-directed working style and enjoyment of interdisciplinary teamwork in an international environment.
- Business-level English; knowledge of German or French is a plus.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with safety-critical or embedded real-time systems in aerospace, avionics, or automotive.
- Experience with formal verification alongside simulation-based methods.
- Experience supporting hardware qualification and environmental test campaigns.
Company description
ATMOS was founded as a European company built on the values of freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and human rights. We are committed to protect these values by making our technology available to others who share the same values, strengthening infrastructure and innovation for prosperity on Earth.
Our team is multinational and diverse, with offices in Lichtenau and Strasbourg. We work in a collegial, hands-on culture where people support each other, take ownership, and keep learning every day. Motivation for the mission comes first — building spacecraft is not a nine-to-five pursuit. We align the mission, the team, and the individual in mutual dependence. This principle shapes our work environment where exceptional people, as committed as they are competent, can grow and contribute to a mission that matters.
