Job description
ATMOS Space Cargo is seeking an Embedded Systems Verification & Validation Engineer (m/f/d) to own verification and validation of the Phoenix capsule's embedded avionics and control systems, from test requirements through to a system proven to work in flight. You will design and operate our dSPACE-based hardware-in-the-loop test benches, and you will work across Avionics, Flight Software, GNC, and AIT to turn requirements into evidence that the system does what it should.
Key responsibilities
- You will design, build, and operate dSPACE-based hardware-in-the-loop test benches, for example SCALEXIO, ControlDesk, and ConfigurationDesk, to simulate sensors, actuators, and environmental conditions.
- You will derive test cases from system and software requirements and build automated test suites for embedded flight software and avionics components.
- You will run verification and validation campaigns at unit, integration, system, and acceptance level, and produce the evidence of compliance against requirements.
- You will analyze faults and debug at the interface between hardware, firmware, and flight software, and carry out root cause analysis of test anomalies.
- You will maintain and extend the test infrastructure, including plant models, I/O configuration, and real-time simulation models.
- You will work with the Avionics, Flight Software, GNC, and AIT teams, contribute to design reviews from a verification and validation perspective, and maintain the verification matrix and test documentation for qualification and acceptance.
Profile required
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or Embedded Systems, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in verification and validation of embedded systems, with hands-on work on hardware-in-the-loop test benches.
- Hands-on experience with the dSPACE environment, such as ControlDesk, ConfigurationDesk, and SCALEXIO or MicroAutoBox.
- Solid understanding of embedded hardware and firmware, including microcontrollers and communication buses such as Ethernet, CAN, RS-422/485, I2C, SPI, and SpaceWire.
- Experience with test automation and scripting in Python, MATLAB, or Simulink.
- A structured, self-driven way of working and enjoyment of troubleshooting at the intersection of hardware and software.
- Very good written and spoken English; German is a plus.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in the space or aerospace industry, or with safety-critical and mission-critical systems.
- Familiarity with relevant standards, mainly ECSS.
- Experience with model-based development, Model-in-the-Loop and Software-in-the-Loop, alongside HIL.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools such as Polarion.
Company description
ATMOS was founded as a European company built on the values of freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and human rights. We are committed to protect these values by making our technology available to others who share the same values, strengthening infrastructure and innovation for prosperity on Earth.
Our team is multinational and diverse, with offices in Lichtenau and Strasbourg. We work in a collegial, hands-on culture where people support each other, take ownership, and keep learning every day. Motivation for the mission comes first — building spacecraft is not a nine-to-five pursuit. We align the mission, the team, and the individual in mutual dependence. This principle shapes our work environment where exceptional people, as committed as they are competent, can grow and contribute to a mission that matters.
